Mockingbird Villa is a midcentury hideaway between Palm Springs and Joshua Tree, set on a hillside near Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. Surrounded by cactus gardens, pine trees, and open desert sky, the home is designed to dissolve the boundary between interior and landscape.

About the space

Light defines the architecture. High vaulted ceilings and custom folding glass doors pull daylight deep into the space and open the living room fully onto the patio. The interiors feel open, calm, and intentional—built around flow, stillness, and ease of living.

Outside, two private acres unfold into a curated desert landscape with sweeping mountain views. A circular gravel drive leads into a garden of cacti and succulents, with outdoor spaces designed for slow mornings, long afternoons, and starlit evenings in the hot tub. With over 200 species of migrating birds passing through, nature is constantly in motion around you.

Why Locèlle loves it

A study in restraint—where architecture doesn’t frame the landscape so much as surrender to it. Light is the only constant here, moving through the space like a material of its own.

The villa never asks for attention. It earns it quietly—through proportion, stillness, and the decision to let the desert remain the dominant voice.

WHY BOOK HERE

For mornings shaped by birdsong and a house that knows exactly where to open itself to the land

Mockingbird Villa feels like it was placed, not built. The kind of home where windows aren’t just for light, but for framing what matters—trees, sky, the quiet movement of the day. It invites a slower rhythm without trying too hard, the kind that sneaks up on you somewhere between your first coffee and an afternoon that disappears outside. This isn’t about getting away. It’s about tuning back in—to where you are, and why you came.

Architecture that leans into its surroundings, with clean lines and openings that pull nature into every room.
A kitchen designed for unhurried meals—simple, open, and meant to be used
Set in a peaceful, bird-filled pocket that feels worlds away, yet exactly where you want to be

YOUR PERSONAL MORONGO VALLEY RETREAT

A high-desert hideaway where birds, light, and stillness take over

The Mockingbird House settles into the landscape in a way that feels almost invisible—sun-bleached tones, open skies, and a quiet that arrives the moment you do. Mornings are marked by hummingbirds drifting just beyond the windows, while the desert light slowly fills the space, soft and unhurried. Inside, the design is thoughtful but restrained. Nothing competes with the setting. It’s a place to move slower, stay longer, and let the rhythm of the desert take the lead. Book direct to experience a stay shaped by light, silence, and everything you didn’t realize you needed.
